To mark the start of Community Energy Fortnight 2025, Milton Keynes Community Energy (MKCE) has launched a new video competition inviting young people to get creative and raise their voices for renewable energy.

The Speak Up for Community Solar competition is open to students aged 11 to 19 across Milton Keynes, offering the chance to win exciting prizes — including a DJI Osmo handheld pro camera, gift vouchers, certificates, and an exclusive work experience day with local filmmaker Keegan Starkey of Starkey Productions and Wedding Diaries.

Students can submit short videos exploring the power of solar and community energy to help shape a greener, fairer future for Milton Keynes. It’s an ideal summer holiday project or early-term activity to boost climate awareness, creativity, and real-world skills.

Extra Funding for Schools — Act Now

The competition complements MKCE’s wider mission to bring fully funded solar to local schools through the 1MW Solar for MK Schools programme, and today, there’s even more good news.

Our delivery partner, Solar for Schools, has secured new National Grid grant funding, meaning eligible schools in Milton Keynes can access additional financial support, on top of the existing fully funded solar offer. This creates even greater savings for schools, alongside the educational benefits of joining the programme.

Many schools are already in the pipeline, but with strong demand for national funding, we urge schools to act now to check eligibility, particularly as they finalise development and sustainability plans for the next academic year.

Let’s work together to empower young voices and bring the benefits of community-owned solar to more schools and communities in Milton Keynes.

Join us in taking part and share our news with young people, schools, organisations and community groups in MK.
