A simpler way for MK businesses, charities and community groups to go solar
Unlike a commercial installation that needs up-front capital, our model removes the financial and operational barriers that stop most organisations going solar. You buy only the clean electricity you use, generated on your own roof, while we take on the cost, the maintenance, and the risk.

Frequently
asked questions
What does Milton Keynes Community Energy do?
MKCE installs and manages community-owned solar across Milton Keynes. Founded in 2015, we are a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and our surplus is reinvested by law into the MK community through programmes such as Home Energy MK.
Our members are those that invest to provide the solar on behalf of the organisations that join us. We are governed by a voluntary Board of Directors proposed and elected by those members.
How does the no-upfront-cost model work?
We fund, install, own and maintain the solar panels. You simply sign a Power Purchase Agreement and buy the solar electricity you consume at a low-cost price.
Price increases are capped each year, giving you long-term pricing stability.
What types of organisation can take part?
Businesses, charities, community buildings, faith groups, sports clubs and public sector organisations: any organisation with a suitable roof and daytime energy use can be eligible for MK community energy.
Who owns and is responsible for maintaining the panels?
Milton Keynes Community Energy does, for the lifetime of the agreement, including monitoring, maintenance and equipment replacement. Reducing long-term risks and costs for your organisation.
What's the community benefit
As a not-for-profit organisation, our surplus is reinvested in Milton Keynes, funding projects that help lower household bills and tackle fuel poverty locally. Your organisation’s rooftop solar will help us do more.
